PATS PEAK STUDENT PATROLLER WINNER
OF 2012 SKI PATROL HANS HYSON AWARD

Henniker, NH, March 22, 2012 -- Pats Peak, New Hampshire's premier snowsports destination, announces student patroller Ian Kendrick as the 2012 recipient of the highly coveted Hans Hyson Memorial Award for Leadership.

Hans was the late son of Jerry Hyson. Jerry has been the Student/Young Adult Patroller Division Advisor for many years. The award is based on having a positive attitude on and off the mountain and being respectful of peers, other patrollers, and the general public. The recipient must be active at his/her home mountain as well as being involved with school and community functions.

Ian received the award at the 2012 Eastern Division Young Adult Patroller Seminar held March 16-19, 2012 at Bromley Mountain Resort, VT. At this event, Student Patrollers from the western Pennsylvania to the tip of Maine meet to challenge each other in skiing skills, toboggan handling skills, and OEC skills.

Six Pats Peak Student Patrollers attended this year’s event. Over the years, Pats Peak Student Patrollers have received numerous awards at this event.

This event isn’t all about the competition. Some of the best trainers in the Division are there to help the Students hone their skills. The Students get to meet and work with Patrollers their age from all over the Division, work with great trainers, and have fun.

Ian is from Weare, NH and has been a member of the Pats Peak Student Patroller program for three years. His father and his two sisters are also Ski Patrollers at Pats Peak. This is his third time attending the Young Adult Patroller Seminar.

Pats Peak Ski Patrol is dedicated to its Student Patroller Program, designed for the young patroller ranging from 15 to 18 years of age. This program is a fun filled, yet educational experience for all these young patrollers. The Pats Peak Student Patrollers receive extra training during the season from their Student Advisor. Student is an age group only and does not determine the level of patrolling they do. Students who have taken the OEC course and completed their on-hill checklist, just like an adult Patroller, can do what the adults do with the exception of operating machinery such as a power drill, snowmobile or act as a temporary lift operator.

Congratulations to Ian for winning this award and to all the Student Patrollers who participated in this seminar.

About the Concord-Merrimack County SPCA:
The Concord-Merrimack County SPCA was founded in 1910 to relieve suffering and prevent cruelty to animals and to educate society on the importance of being just and compassionate to all living things. It is a warm and caring facility for animals in transition, where staff find a loving home for all adoptable animals, no matter how long it may take. The mission is interpreted to require not only on-site care of animals but an active involvement in the community that supports us by serving as a resource to all pet guardians and as an educational voice for youth. Programs and services reflect their involvement, their commitment, and their vision. Concord-Merrimack County SPCA, 130 Washington Street, Penacook, NH 03303. (603) 753—6751 www.concordspca.org

Henniker, NH, March 13, 2012 --Childhood Cancer Lifeline Weekend at Pats Peak, held February 25 & 26, 2012, raised a total of $22,500, insuring much needed support for NH families who have a child battling cancer.

The auction and dinner was a large portion of the money raised along with the generosity of the Pats Peak skier/riders that donated at the cashier locations through the donation request campaign. Visitors to The Peak, along with Peak employees, papered the lodges with well wishes, collectively donating over $6,500. In addition to coaching by Pats Peak race coaches, participants will also receive coaching advice from four US Ski Team athletes through collaboration with the T2 Foundation, which provides support to potential world-class athletes.

The Boston Ski Party, a member organization of the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS), are in their sixth year of a partnership with Pats Peak to introduce young athletes of color to the sport of skiing and to develop future ski racers and Olympic hopefuls. That partnership continues to be strong and has introduced a new generation of skiers and snowboarders (100+) to the slopes and dreams of Olympic Gold.
“We know that creating the first African American Olympic medalist will take a lot of effort,” says Richard Ward from the Boston Ski Party. “Through our club, other NBS national affiliates and the many partnerships we have formed, we are beginning to move closer to that dream.”

The Boston Ski Party is building a pipeline of athletes and budding stars that range in age from three to seventeen years old. A collaborative effort with Boston non-profit partner, Youth Enrichment Services, its Race Development Program now serves 70 youth, mostly of color. During the off season these young skiers and riders participate in “dry land training” activities that improve their conditioning and build their racing skills in preparation for next season.

Boston Ski Party member, Darnell Holmes (17), competes locally and at the FIS level as a member of the elite Waterville Valley Academy Race Team. As a member of the NBS national team, Darnell hopes to one day make the US Ski Team.

Nationally, NBS clubs are moving African American skiers of color forward in the sport. Paralympic skier, Ralph Green, at 28 became the first African-American to ski an alpine event at the 2006 Paralympics Winter Games in Turin, Italy. Lauren Samuels of the NBS club Thrillseekers was named to the 2009-2010 USSA Alpine Development Team and the 2012 USA Junior World Team.

Jim Wall, Pats Peak’s Director of Services says, “Supporting cultural diversity on the slopes is not new at Pats Peak. We have been hard at work for over ten years to reach into the inner city of Boston. Working closely with organizations, like the Boston Ski Party, provides us the opportunity to earn the respect of the emerging inner city market. We are happy to play a role in achieving the organization’s mission.”

PATS PEAK DEDICATES WEEKEND OF SKIING, MUSIC AND AUCTIONS
TO HELP FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WITH CANCER
FEBRUARY 25 & 26, 2012

Live Bands, Donations, Raffles, Silent and Live Auctions

Henniker, NH, February 13, 2012 -- Pats Peak, southern New Hampshire’s favorite mountain, is hosting the 12th Annual Childhood Cancer Lifeline fundraiser weekend on February 25 & February 26, 2012. This event promises to be a fun-filled weekend, full of activity and promise. Be an extension of the “lifeline” by supporting the annual fundraising event at Pats Peak on February 26, 2012. This is a great opportunity to enjoy skiing/riding and support New Hampshire families who have a child with cancer.

Each year in NH as many as 73 families hear the words “Your child has cancer”. For them, life is never the same. The emotional and financial impact of a cancer diagnosis upon a family is devastating. In addition to social and support opportunities held throughout the year, the Childhood Cancer Lifeline provides direct financial assistance and comfort items to NH families, from the point of diagnosis, through the journey with cancer.

Since 2009, through the Links! Program, the Childhood Cancer Lifeline has provided laptops to each newly diagnosed school-aged child. These laptops provide a much needed connection to the world beyond the confines of the hospital. Since their inception, they have provided in excess of $400,000 in direct financial assistance to NH families.

“The ongoing support of the local community helped the Lifeline to reach major goals in recent months. We continue to address the urgent needs of families through the provision of gas cards, meal vouchers and emergency funding. The long awaited fully accessible tree house was dedicated in June of 2011 at YMCA Camp Coniston in memory of four young campers. Our 100th laptop was delivered last month. We are so touched that so many continue to support our organization, to reach out to truly “be a lifeline” to families in need”, says board President, Sylvia Pelletier.

Throughout the week leading up to the weekend events and throughout the weekend skiers and snowboarders will be able to make a donation to the cause. Raffles, Childhood Cancer Awareness Pins along with tickets for the Sunday evening event will be available for purchase during the weekend.

On Saturday, October Sons will be playing in the Sled Pub from 4pm to 9pm. On Sunday, October Sons will host several Lifeline Benefit Rock Bands in “We Will, We Will ROCK Cancer” starting at 12pm in the Sled Pub.

Sunday evening’s events kick off at 3pm, with a live and silent auction, raffles and dinner by Pats Peak’s Executive Chef, Guy Pelletier. The Live and Silent Auction has many gift certificates, tickets New England Sports Teams, sports memorabilia plus much more. Tickets purchased before the weekend of the event for the Sunday evening event are $20 per person or $30 per couple. Tickets purchased the weekend of the event are $25 per person or $40 per couple. Tickets may be purchased at PATS PEAK Guest Services, by calling (603) 428-3245, throughout the event weekend in the Main Lodge or at the door. This event continues to be the most successful fundraising event for the Childhood Cancer Lifeline of New Hampshire.

The Childhood Cancer Lifeline of New Hampshire has a special relationship with Pats Peak. Chef Guy Pelletier, who joined Pats Peak in May of 2000, has two children who are cancer survivors. Guy’s wife Sylvia is a founding member and current President of the organization. The Lifeline continues to be the only organization dedicated to empowering NH families whose children have cancer by providing them with financial assistance, resources, and most importantly -- hope.

PATS PEAK Capital Improvements for the 2011/2012 Season

PATS PEAK continues to re-invest in its facility to improve their guest experience.

Henniker, NH, July 12, 2011 – PATS PEAK, southern New Hampshire’s favorite mountain, enters into its 49th consecutive ski and snowboard season under the same local family ownership. For the upcoming season, PATS PEAK continues to focus on customer service. This year guests will find improvements in all facets of the operation to make their experience even better and easier. Through these efforts PATS PEAK continues to be a number one destination for skiers and riders in southern NH.

The 2011/2012 season brings with it upgraded snowmaking capabilities; new Burton Learn To Ride Center; new rental equipment; new progression parks and camps; improved website; additional air conditioning; upgrades to outside of the base lodges; new base lodge carpet; and renovated bathrooms for the Sleigh Room.

Kris Blomback, General Manager, commented, "Our team continues to focus on the guest experience as we complete our upgrades for the 2011/2012 season. Upgrades to our snowmaking system will allow us to open more terrain quicker in the early season. We are excited to be a Burton Learn To Ride Center to provide beginner snowboarders the best in equipment, teaching and programs. Our terrain parks continue to be very popular therefore we are adding progression parks to our list of park options."

Upgraded Snowmaking Capabilities with Energy-Efficient Snowmaking Guns and Snowmaking Pipe

Every season PATS PEAK focuses some of its capital expenditures on enhancing the already impressive 100% state-of-the-art snowmaking coverage. This year the efforts are focused on continuing to invest in the most energy efficient snowmaking equipment with the addition of eight new SMI Fan Guns and two new HKD Turbo Fans to make more snow even faster. Fan Guns require 20-25% less compressed air than other technologies, while putting out more snow in marginal temperature conditions.

“We will be able to open more terrain faster and sustain it longer through stretches with marginal temperatures. Also, using this type of snowmaking technology provides us with substantial savings in energy costs”, says Blomback.

Also, early season snowmaking capabilities have been upgraded with 3,000 feet of additional snowmaking pipe. “This new pipe will allow us to focus our resources efficiently. Rather then having 20 guns running on two trails this will allow us early season to run 20 guns on the same early trail. Hydrants are also being doubled up so early in the game the guns are closer together,” Blomback stated.

The upgraded snowmaking capabilities will help PATS PEAK reach its goal to continue to be the first ski area in NH to be 100% open. Snowmaking in the gladed areas continues to set PATS PEAK apart from the competition.

New Burton Learn To Ride (LTR) Center

The Pats Peak Rental Shop is now a Burton Learn To Ride Center (LTR) with 150 new Kids and 200 Adult LTR Boards designed to accelerate learning by utilizing beginner-specific equipment. Burton Learn To Ride provides snowboard beginners with gear designed to improve their experience as well as proven teaching methods to make for an enjoyable and successful first day. The equipment is tailored by gender and age to maximize each individual's learning potential. LTR boards are designed to reduce the likelihood of catching an edge while learning and the LTR boots and bindings are softer flexing, allowing the rider to more easily guide the board into a turn. Burton Snowboards innovative Learn-To-Ride products are specifically designed to facilitate and accelerate learning. Developed in conjunction with the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) and major resorts around North America, the LTR methodology stresses getting people to link turns in the first lesson. The Kids LTR Boards are designed for children 12 and under and groups kids with their peers, on equipment to fit their height & weight.

New Rental Equipment

In addition to the Burton LTR Snowboard equipment, the Rental Shop continues to add to its already impressive rental fleet with 250 new pairs Dalbello Adult Ski Boots. These ski boots provide maximum performance and all day comfort and warmth to skiers. The state-of-the-art 9,600 square foot Rental Shop provides fast service to renters along with a carpet lift that takes guests and their equipment up to the slopes.

Children's Center Gets Exclusive Kids Rental Fleet

The Bear’s Club Program now has an exclusive Kids rental fleet of skis, snowboards and boots in order to provide better customer service to renters in these programs. Participants in the Bear’s Den Children’s Program no longer need to pick up their equipment in the rental shop before heading up to the Bear’s Den.

New Progression Parks and Camps

In an effort to make it easier than ever for skiers and snowboarders to learn how to ride freestyle terrain, PATS PEAK will be adding a progression park to its line up of terrain parks. These parks are designed for entry-level park riders with smaller versions of terrain features and signage with helpful trick tips.

A new Freestyle Camp will be added to the Christmas and February School Vacation Weeks 3-Day Camps for ages 6 to 13. Skiers and riders will learn tips and techniques to optimize their park experience. This program is for skiers and riders who can comfortably link turns on blue terrain. Camps are 6 hours per day, 9:30am to 3:30pm, and include Lunch. Registrations will begin late Fall.

Improved Website to Make Information More Interactive

Launching in the Fall, patspeak.com, will provide an easy way for beginners choose the proper package and program for them. They will be asked a series of questions and the answers provided will guide them in the right direction to enjoy their day on the slopes.

Additional Air Conditioning in the Sled Pub

The Pats Peak Banquet Center, “The Other Season of Pats Peak”, is a popular banquet location hosting over 85 weddings and many other events during the months of April through December. During the summer months, Pats Peak banquet guests enjoy air conditioning in both lodges and this year’s improvements include additional air conditioning in the Sled Pub.

New Coat of Stain and Fresh New Accents on the Base Lodges

Guests arriving at the mountain will notice the new coat of stain and some fresh new accents on both base lodges. “A lot of time was spent this summer staining the base lodge buildings and on general facility upkeep to give the resort a fresher look. We continue to focus on the details,” said Blomback.

New Carpets in the Base Lodge

To enhance the guest experience, new carpets have been installed in the main base lodge. Not only does this enhance the winter experience but also augments the summer banquet season.
